Giving Thanks This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is upon us, and we at Timbers Resorts are especially grateful for our Owners, staff, friends and guests who make up our family. This holiday, we look forward to boiling down the cranberries, readying the rosemary-fragrant birds for roasting — and perhaps selecting that special bottle from the cellar. But, first, let’s take a moment to consider where this ritual of giving thanks began, and to acknowledge the gifts that we enjoy by noting some of the ways that Timbers Resorts carries the spirit of Thanksgiving into the community, every day.

Thanksgiving in America

The holiday that we’ve come to celebrate as Thanksgiving in the U.S. finds its roots in a single meal that brought two communities together, nearly 400 years ago.

In 1621, colonists at Plymouth — in what is now Massachusetts — joined members of the Wampanoag tribe to share a three-day autumn feast. Such a gathering was a celebration of life itself. Growing the food one needed to survive was a challenging task. Over the next 200 years or so, colonies, and then the states that emerged from the growing nation, held Thanksgiving as they saw fit.

Then, in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln fixed the event to the final Thursday of November and declared it a national holiday. It is this time frame for Thanksgiving that comes down to us, today.

Timbers Resorts and the Spirit of Giving Back

As the communities that host Timbers Resorts’ luxury fractional homes welcomed us, at the beginning, we in turn give back to them during this and all seasons of the year.

The philanthropic efforts of Timbers Resorts are many, primarily with an emphasis on youth, the Arts and the environment. Over the years, we've established college scholarships for high school students in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and St. Thomas, U.S.V.I; supported athletic programs from skiing to Little League softball in Aspen, Snowmass and Vail; worked with Habitat for Humanity in our hometown of Carbondale; donated to animal shelters in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; and helped fund the non-profits that encourage and foster our communities in Tuscany and California.

We wish all a happy, healthy holiday season and look forward to many more special occasions together ahead.
